3D Printing.
Creality Sprite | Direct Drive Upgrade (Ender 3 Pro)
The Ender 3 is a very capable machine, making 3d printed parts like a boss! However, a drawback for me was the method of filament extrusion. Stock it comes with a rather large stepper motor attached to the back of the Z-Axis. This stepper motor drives a small brass gear pushing plastic filament down a long thin tube with cheap pneumatic fittings attached on either end. These typically work well but I ran into issues when changing filament or cleaning the nozzle assembly. If done incorrectly, or just done at all; the hard plastic tubing would strip the teeth inside the pneumatic fittings. Not enough to be an immediate problem but a few hours into a print, the pressure of the filament sliding back and forth down the Bowden tube would cause it to come undone and spool out. The perk of this direct drive system on the Ender 3 Pro is the ease of access it gives me. I can swap filaments in a second. I can quickly remove the entire head by just a few screws and with better cooling and retraction rates, my parts look even better! If you've got a similar printer, I highly recommend you give it a try.
